Hello. What is the best manner in which to apply Arctic Cooling MX-4 thermal paste on a i5 cpu? Some ppl say "put a pocket-size grain and identify the heatsink/fan ontop", while others say "spread some paste sparse with a plastic bill of fare, and and then place the heatsink/fan ontop".

So, which is the best way, so equally non to have any "air pockets" or whatever... spread a thin layer of paste using a plastic card, or merely pop a modest grain of pea and smash the heatsink/fan over it, and so that information technology will spread past itself?

Cheers.

personally i use the "pea" method, where you lot put a pocket-sized amount of textile in the center of the cpu, and place the cooler down on top of it. (the telephone call it bead/pea/rice sized, all the same, in my experience the amount of TIM you need is probably less then whatsoever of those)

With this method at that place is no way to go air bubbles unless you stone the cpu cooler. (after contact is made, tilt the cooler so it'due south no longer flush with the cpu)

I'1000 sure the carte du jour method works for some, simply it always screamed "air bubble" to me, and so i've never used it.

Place a pea sized drop on the middle of the processor. When you lock the rut sink down information technology will spread evenly itself without creating air pockets.

Ok, cheers. One more affair: the BOX i5 cpu I got goes with an intel heatsink/fan (which I will use), and information technology already has some paste from intel on the box fan. I should remove this first before applying mx4 to the cpu, right? (using booze/coffee filter)

yep, if you program to utilize the arctic mx-4 you'll need to make clean the lesser of the intel cooler outset.

rubbing alcohol (xc% or better) and q-tips does a great chore. a microfiber cloth to dry it off works wonders to requite information technology a light smoothen. basically the contact bespeak on that cooler should shine like a mirror when y'all're done.

Ok, cheers! Simply a final question -- practice you recollect the BOX cooler and mx-4 paste will be plenty for the i5-4460? Don't have upkeep for an aftermarket cooler, then hope this will suffice. This cpu can't be OCed anyway.
